Will began taking photographs as a teenager in the latter half of the 1970s, focussing mainly on street and landscape subjects. He quickly became immersed in the black and white photographic process. After a long break he has recently begun a new journey into digital photography.

Close-up photographs usually focus on a single area. In contrast, Will aims to capture the essence of still life presentation, preserving a visual connection with all parts of the subject simultaneously, while avoiding the distraction of a staged backdrop.

Many of the images here are created by blending multiple individual photographs into a single composite image. The aesthetic aspects of post-processing then follow (work that used to be carried out in the darkroom) to balance colours and correct any focus stacking errors. Each image takes many hours to produce, usually spread over days or weeks until the result is ‘right’.

Printed images are a natural counterpoint to the deluge of online digital imagery; these prints aim at stillness, allowing us to observe familiar objects in a timeless way.
